What is B on 33?

Beautifying Our Byways

B on 33: Beautifying Our Byways was founded in summer 2023 by a passionate group of locals who were inspired by wildflower medians in other communities and wanted to bring that beauty to the Highway 33 bike path in Teton Valley.

What does the “B” stand for?  A lot of important things including Blossoms, Butterflies and Bees. By planting native wildflowers and grasses along both sides of the bike path, B on 33 aims to beautify our byways while at the same time crowding out noxious weeds, providing rich habitat and nourishment for a wide variety of native pollinators, and making the scenic byway from Victor to Driggs even more enjoyable for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

B on 33 is a 100% volunteer organization and operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Teton Valley Trails and Pathways. By opting to streamline operations in favor of getting the project done rather than creating yet another nonprofit, we plan to invest all of our donations directly into purchasing a mixture of native wildflower seeds.

What have we accomplished thus far?  We’ve engaged Prospect Studio in Wilson to create a site plan. Talented local artist, Stacey Walker Oldham, designed our wonderful logo.  We’ve had many conversations with Idaho Transportation Department and Teton County about the project. And in the Fall 2023, we planted eight test plots of native wildflower and grass seeds on private land with varying soil conditions.  As seedlings emerge, we’re checking to see what flourishes in different zones.

Our priorities this summer include vegetation mapping, weed control, fundraising, community engagement and planning for our Fall 2024 seeding along specific portions of the pathway.  We’re working with restoration ecologists and native plant experts to choose the best native plants for our growing conditions.

How can you help?  Get involved as a volunteer!  There’s lots of work to be done from vegetation mapping to outreach and events.  Can’t volunteer? Donate seed money to help us purchase seeds and rent equipment for our Fall planting.  Can your business help out with a service or donating a hardscape item?   We appreciate any help we can get to realize our dream.  Remember, 100% of your donations will go directly to purchasing seeds! Together we can make beauty grow!
